Nowadays, a lot of parents choose homeschooling as their option for their children’s education. Recent statistics shows that families in the US who now prefer homeschooling for their children have already reached 27%. This statistic is projected to increase in a few years now that there are a lot schools that provide this method of teaching.

Many families choose homeschooling because of the many benefits it can offer. Here are some of the reasons why parents choose homeschooling for their childrens education:

1. Schools and religious organizations have already accepted this option and are now offering it to parents. One benefit it offers is the flexibility the children get and their parents. Parents can now choose courses together with other activities that are aligned to their children’s interests.

They may be able to choose other activities that are according to the skills their children want to develop. They can choose classes from guitar or piano playing, sports, theatrical activities aside to the academic courses. Children at the same time do not get bored since the program engages in different activities and variations.

2. With homeschooling, control over the children’s future is seen more than in the traditional way of education. In homeschooling, parents together with the educators are able to direct the children to what they want to be in the future. This of course will be based on the child’s main interest. Children will be able to have many choices and will be able to visualize what they want to be in the future as early as their childhood. This is because they will be offered activities and not only be confined in classroom settings.

3. Families who enrolled their children in homebased schools are able to adjust their time and schedules. There would be no time pressure since they will be the ones to choose the time most convenient to them. In homeschooling, the parents are more flexible and are able to monitor their children’s progress since they are the ones who set the schedules for the child’s classes.

4. Children who attend homeschooling are found to be more responsible and independent. They are not confined with their age groups in classroom settings. They are exposed to many communities, different age groups and orientation.

This teaches them not to become too dependent on their peers and parents. They learn how to mingle and socialize. They also learn how to manage their time and they become responsible in doing their homework even without much guidance from their educators.

An Insight on When to Home School Your Children

Nowadays, many parents are enticed to homeschool their children. In fact, recent reports show that more than 1.2 million students in the United States are already obtaining their education through homeschool programs. This goes to show that more and more people are seeing the full benefits of homeschooling their children.

However, for those who are struggling on whether to homeschool their children or not are still on the brink of so many questions. One of the questions is about finding the right time to homeschool their children.

Many parents are wondering if there is a specific age or time to homeschool their children. They want to be sure that by the time they have decided to homeschool their children, they have made the right decision and that it will definitely be for their childrens own good.

However, most experts contend that deciding on whether to homeschool your children or not is not actually a matter of the right time to opt for homeschooling but more on the comfort and personal choice of every parent.

Simply put, there are no appropriate times to start homeschooling. The key point here is that as long as you need to homeschool your children and as long as you feel that your family is already prepared for the matter, then you can start homeschooling your children.

What matters most is that when you have decided to homeschool your children, be sure that you have all the necessary requirements ready and that you are determined to pursue the process no matter what happens.

The problem with most people is that they thought that once their children have started their primary education in a public school, they can no longer opt to homeschool.

The good news is that you can still homeschool your children even if they were already introduced to the typical schooling method. Just be sure that you have prepared everything that is needed for the transition.

Therefore, the question on when to homeschool your children now lies on the reasons why you want to homeschool your children first.

For instance, if you think that you can no longer tolerate the environment that the typical schools have, then now is the right time to opt for homeschooling. In fact, 31% of the parents of homeschoolers have this reason.

Therefore, there are no specific periods to opt for homeschooling. Analyze your reasons and basis for homeschooling, and from there you will know that its about time to choose a better alternative to the typical schooling homeschooling.

Christian Home Schooling Information

The principles and reasons for a Christian homeschool is influenced by the childs training based from the Bible, wherein the education of the child should be left in the parents hands.

As seen in all Christian homeschools, parents teach the word of the Lord, to prepare their children for appropriate Christian wisdom, direction and values essential in their everyday life as well as when they reach adulthood. This aspect of teaching is not found in curriculums of the public schools.

Christian homeschools are distinct for each family. Some accurately design their home to look like a school, complete with textbooks, desks, flag salute, and yes, recess.

Others make homeschooling a way of life, choosing not so much in utilizing workbooks, required texts and schedules. Here, both children and parents learn through life experiences; teaching, learning and studying is part of their everyday routine instead of a closely controlled classroom setting.

Whatever is each familys homeschool setup, their objective is all alike, that of giving their children important information while at the same time imparting in them how to become critical thinkers and independent individuals that are aware and conscious of the choices they make.

Families that homeschool adjust its setting to fit both their philosophies and lifestyle; there is no wrong or right way to shape and construct an environment for their home Christian school.

Christian families make the most of all the limitless resources accessible, using the Bible, literature, home economics, nature and every living thing as their principal basis of education, constantly integrating teachings from the Bible in each subject matter.

Christian homeschools allow the parents to impart Gods Word to their child. It is an environment of spiritual and moral reinforcement through which kids are being trained seriously in the Word of God, mainly to act and think as Christians.

Typically, the curriculum in a Christian homeschool spends a meaningful and substantial time in the study of the Bible, wherein the focus is Gods scripture.

Christians choose to home educate their children primarily because of their faith that God’s plan is revealed through parents raising and educating their own children. In fact, Christians firmly acknowledge that it is the way of the Bible; there is no other educational system than this.

Christians actually accept that God did not even suggeste schools to be attended by His people; that schools were a product of man. The Bible pages support by instruction, example and principle, a course that resembles closely home education.

Why Do I Need A College Degree?

I dont think Ill go to college. How many times have we heard that line in TV shows and movies? Countless. But if parents can afford sending their students to colleges or universities, they do. Statistics show that those who pursue further studies after high school are more successful in the real world.

Most companies hire potential employees who have college diplomas. If they come from Ivy League universities, the better. They know there are some applicants who may not have the same education as those of the Harvard and Princeton graduates yet possess street skills. They are also hired, as long as they have certificates from colleges or an associate degree.

That is the exact reason why people are finding ways to afford colleges. Parents are already saving up while their children are still young. They apply for trust funds and education plans.

Unfortunately, some parents can’t afford colleges. There are those who aspire to step into a college or a university, thus they make it happen themselves. They are working students.

There are also men and women in their mid 30s or 40s attending night classes to get a diploma or certificate. They know that this piece of paper is crucial in the professional world. It will give them an edge when they apply for a certain positon in a big company.

There is a demand for higher education. Whether it be from a private college, public university, vocational institution or community college, as long as the student has the papers showing that he pursued further studies, a business establishment is more interested with his potential.

Why do I need a college degree? This is the question most high school students ask. This question is often answered by the fact that men and women who went to college or obtained an education similar to it (associate degrees, night school, online degree, college or state campuses) earn more money than a high school graduate.

Imagine this. One year of college already empowers the individual to cash in more money each year than a person who completed all four years of high school.

So if you are thinking of pursuing a career, you must already save up for the future. Colleges take up a whole lot of preparation. If you have parents who can cash you on with this plan then you are lucky.

If not but you are determined, start handing out your resume to part time opportunities now. Its an investment worth taking for a better future.

Home Schooling Parents: How To Be A Good Home School Teacher

Studies show that the training or degree of parents is not an important factor in the success of homeschooled children. More essential than a degree or a college diploma is your concern, commitment and eagerness to give your child the best kind of education that he/she deserve.

The fact that almost all homeschool parents are not professional teachers, they should select a curriculum that best suits the child’s learning style, capacity and needs and find ways to support that plan.

The qualities of an efficient and effective teacher vary; however, they should possess good character, display enthusiasm in teaching and have dedication to work with their students.

Here are some guidelines to help you become the best teacher for your child:

1.Choose the curriculum for your child well. Make certain that you recognize the goals defined by a certain curriculum.

Examine it to determine if the goals match those defined by your State as standard for each level, as well as if it matches your childs learning style and capabilities.

2.Be prepared. Study the curriculum well so that you are well educated when you teach your child.

3.Determine your childs learning style. It is only through proper determination of your childs learning style that you can effectively teach him/her.

Note that there are children who learn well visually, so in this case, reading and videos can be a better teaching tool. Some are listeners, in such cases, music, reading to them out loud and humming for instance their mathematic tables can be a better method of teaching.

4.Be creative. Homeschool instruction doesnt have to be a one way kind of teaching. Encourage your child to ask questions so you both can discuss the subject matter in a way that the child does not only listen and get information from you, but that your child is actively explaining and expressing his/her own opinion or views.

5.Be understanding. When you feel that your child is having difficulties on a certain subject, then give him/her time and give thorough guidance, by asking her what she finds difficult so you both can work up a plan as well as enough time to solve the problem. Understand that children are not robots who easily absorb information. Allow them to have their shortcomings.

6.Recognize that above all, you are a parent. Parents do whats best for their children. Following your instinct as a mom, will make you the best teacher for your child. And it comes naturally!

Career Guidance Tests Determine Your College Major

In high school, everyone is taught the same lessons in the same subjects. This is General Information. However, when a senior steps out of the high school establishment and into college, he has to have a major.

Major is the course of learning a college student concentrates on. Clearly, there are tons of majors to choose from. A human being has so many interests and so many dreams and aspirations that it is difficult to choose which major is the appropriate one.

There are college students who have already decided what they will be taking the very minute they apply to universities or colleges. They already have this image in their head that they will be businessmen, lawyers, doctors. Thus they sign up for pre-management, pre-law and pre-medicine courses. But there are those who are still at a loss.

Some high schools provide career guidance programs which assist the students toward the right path. Assessment quizzes like this result to the main interest of the students that can assist him in deciding which major is perfect for him.

In the college degree tests, the taker (student) is presented with questions about his ideal work environment, personality (the one that most people see and the side that only you know), work habits, enjoyment, interests and aspirations. The answers to these questions pretty much serve as the canvas on the major the taker is most suitable for.

There are also online exams that can help the student figure out which major is right for him. All he has to do is google it and search engine will show various results. Most of the time, these are accurate because it is the students fingers doing all the clicking.

The main difference about college and high school is that you can at least control which classes to take. Your major determines the classes included in your curriculum. Lets say that you love books so you opted to be a Literature major. You cant wait to attend those classes discussing literary greats like William Shakespeare and Thomas Hardy. Unlike high school, there is no need to browse during periods because you will never find the subject matter boring.

Try figuring out your major. From there, you can work on deciding which college or university to attend. Choose one that is good in that major. Ask people about it. Like Harvard is really good in Government subjects. If you are pursuing a law degree and you feel you have a good shot getting accepted anyway, get an application form.

Don’t be afraid to take risks. Its the only way you will really know for sure what is out there.

The Ugly Side of Home Schooling: Disadvantages You Must Consider

It has always been accepted that parents have an inherent right to determine how to raise and educate their children. These days, the latter decision is made more complex for the simpler dichotomous decision of private versus public schooling is given a third rival: homeschooling. Homeschooling holds an obvious advantage over the other two, that of the fact that as a parent, you are given an opportunity to be completely hands-on with your childs education, from schedule, to curriculum, and to the sort of development you want imbibed in him or her through that education. While these advantages may hold true under any circumstance, it is important for you as a parent to also understand the disadvantages in the system as well. Only then can you be certain that you are indeed making the right and educated decision in choosing homeschooling over the other two.

The first obvious disadvantage is the amount of investment you have to make as a parent. Why? Homeschooling leaves the responsibility of educating your child completely on you. This means youre going to have to research and collate a curriculum for your child, as well as determine on your own supplemental activities that will enhance this learning experience. Moreover, this means having to invest greater time in your child than a normal working parent would. Homeschooling may require either parent to stay home and be the teacher, or may put greater stress on parents who both work for a living.

This also means doing away with the expertise of an accredited teacher. Trained teachers are equipped with the knowledge to teach a wide range of topics as well as strategies in order to stimulate greater learning and active participation. As a parent without this training, you may find it necessary to do much more research, especially as you determine what you want to teach your child.

The classroom setting provides inherent benefits of socialization to your child. Homeschooling obviously takes away this opportunity for your child to interact with other children in the learning environment. Although your child may have siblings to interact with, this may translate to your child as not being exposed to a wider gamut of ideas and perspectives. A classroom with children from different backgrounds and personal beliefs provides your child with ideas that may stimulate his mind to think and criticize.

Visit and talk to people who have undergone homeschooling. This may help you get to know more about these disadvantages, and perhaps, help you learn how to appropriately respond to them to make homeschooling work for you.

A Crucial Decision: Selecting a College State University

One of the important decisions you make once youve become an adult is selecting your college or university. This can determine your future. A good college or university can mean doors of opportunity when employment beckons.

The college or university of your choice greatly affects practically every area of your life. This determines your future job. It can also determine who you will end up with. Who knows, you might bag a college sweetheart at this phase of your life.

Seriously, this is a stressful decision you have to make but someone has to make it. You can ask the opinion of others (parents, friends, relatives) but in the end, it is your call.

Different schools mean different kinds of people. Some schools offer activities that others don’t have. College is the time where you can develop independence. You can also get to know yourself more here.

Now, if only there was a way for you to predict what your life will be if you choose college A or college B. But going back to reality, you just have to decide carefully and cross your fingers.

Sometimes, it isn’t the state university determining what kind of life you will lead. You make your own life. Whichever college state university you choose to attend, you have to make the most out of each opportunity presented to you.

You need to have a plan. Some write it down so they can clearly see their goals in flat out on the table and in front of them. The list must include your priorities in college.

But don’t feel bound to this plan. Plans change. If that happens, at least you have a route. You will not get lost. Use your plan as a guide to whichever route you have to take if there happens to be a fork on the road eventually,

If the time comes for you to make your final decision, read the colleges brochures thoroughly and repeatedly. If you already have a dream college and you still don’t have an application kit, you can request for it by sending them a letter.

Keep your options open. There may be some schools that dont interest you in the first place but have a look at their brochures anyway. There might be something about that school that can ignite a passion.

Apply to as many colleges and universities that you can. In the end, the one that is most appropriate for you will accept you.

Home Schooling: The Advantages And Disadvantages

People new to the idea and concept of homeschooling often have a thousand of questions to raise. Here is some helpful information to guide you in weighing things out:

Some homeschooling advantages:

1.Allow quality time, providing individualized attention and instruction. Homeschooling parents can better understand their children; observe how kids progress, what areas they find difficult and help them out.

2.Children learn in their own pace. At homeschool, children can advance at any time, not waiting on others or if the kid is a slow learner or having difficulties in a certain subject area, she/he can remain to focus on that area without pressure that others are already moving on.

3.Parents pattern their teaching style and curriculum in accordance with the childs learning style, allowing him/her to successfully understand the subject matter, thus better results are achieved.

4.No peer pressure. At a homeschool, age classification is not a factor, therefore children not only associate with children their same age level, but with children of different ages and adults as well, so they can decide on their own without the influence of peers.

5.Hands on learning. Activities which are outside the context of books are very much essential to the childs learning process. Trips to the park, the museum, the zoo, going fishing with mom and dad can be a great time to spend an afternoon educating your child.

Some homeschooling disadvantages:

1.For the homeschool parent, much time and effort is required for preparation of teaching materials, lessons and managing the childs opportunities in order to cultivate friendships and expand on the childs interests.

2.Parents who homeschool do not have enough time to spend for themselves when kids are constantly at home. This frequent time of being together can be at times suffocating and, therefore, can not work in certain families.

3.Homeschooled children do not have a lot of opportunities to bond and develop friendships with peers. For many families, this really is not a problem and is supplemented by taking the kids out to play in the park, attend lessons in ballet, jazz, etc. However it takes a lot of effort on the part of parents to insure that their kids have these opportunities.

Whether to homeschool or not, it all depends on you, as a parent, on how much are you willing to give your child. On top of all the learning materials, the field trips, home schooling entails a lot of love, patience and encouragement.

How to Solve Your Dilemma on College and College Degree Selection

Deciding to go to college and finish a degree is a life-defining move. You must agree that the choices you make in this stage of your life will most definitely affect your career path and your future in general.

Since this is so, be sure to read these tips in choosing the best college degree:

1.First, you must know what your skills are, academically speaking, that is. Are you mathematically-inclined? Or are you much better in the languages and science? You see, it would be a nightmare for you to take up law when you are much more interested in, say, writing.
2.If you can, sign up for internships so that you can get a ‘feel’ of the work environment in each college major option that you have.
3.Aside from your skills, choose a course that offers flexibility when you start job-hunting. Is this course that you’re deciding to take up gonna require more training before you are hired?

Now that you have some degrees in mind, the next level is to choose the college that you will attend. Here are, again, some tips in choosing the best colleges that would offer your chosen field:

1.First, be certain if you would rather attend a college near your home or one that would take you miles away from family.
2.Consider if you would want a big and famous university or a small and private campus. Your personality would dictate this. If you are the type that likes crowds, then go for the university that offers it all. If you are more of an introvert, then, by all means, go for the college with less population.
3.If you are sports-oriented, be sure to check out campuses that offer gyms or outdoor fields that can support sports of your choice. If you are more of a computer geek, there are colleges that offer a much subdued environment that is conducive to learning.
4.If you belong to a different denomination, as much as you can , look for a university that supports your belief or, at least, respects it. For example, Mormons have the Brigham Young University which was founded by people that share their belief.
5.The next thing to consider is your budget. There are several public and private colleges in the country. By rule, private colleges are much more expensive than the public ones but that doesn’t mean that they provide a less quality in education. Just be able to scout for the right public school.

These tips are just here as guidelines. What matters most is still YOU. What does your heart dictate and crave?
